About This Item

London.: Rudolph Ackermann., 1840.. Publisher's cloth, rubbed on spine and forecorners, some staining to boards, paint marks on rear pastedown.. 8vo.. pp. 47, 8 adverts + 11 coloured plates. "The Author's long experience as an artist (together with the success of those who have been taught by him, on a system which includes precept and example on a portrait or composition, landscape, etc. painted in the presence of the pupil), enables him to undertake, with confidence, the instruction of amateurs in the art. His terms are Half-a-Guinea for a lesson of two hours, at the residence of the pupil. It is needless to point out, to connoisseurs, the great importance of confiding a damaged painting to the care and superintendence of an artist, instead of entrusting it to the experimental efforts of a mere mechanic." (Cawse).
