New York: Art-Rite Publishing Company, 1973. First Edition. Paperback. Early issue of the downtown avant-garde art 'zine published between 1973 and 1978 (running to 18 issues total) and distributed on the streets around SoHo and Chelsea. In direct opposition to mainstream art-critical journals of the period, Art-Rite stuck to a low-budget, proto-punk aesthetic and focused its sights on the work of unrecognized, marginal artists who would become pioneers of the interdisciplinary and performance-oriented art boom of the late Seventies and Eighties. Wegman, who illustrated the cover, is best known for his photographs of Weimaraners in various poses and costumes. Contents include articles on art critic Maximum Kozloff and American dancer Yvonne Rainer. Quarto (27.5cm.); publisher's pictorial self-wrappers, disbound as issued; 16pp.; illus. Extremities uniformly toned, tiny loss at bottom corner of first and last few leaves, else Very Good or better.
