About This Item

New York, NY The Museum of Primitive Art, 1961. Hardcover First Edition (1961), unstated. Good+ in Fair DJ: The Book shows a former owner's name and date in red marker pen at the front pastedown endpaper and again undated and in ink at the front free endpaper and a few lines of commentary in red marker pen at the title page; moderate shelving wear along the bottom edges; the binding shows slight lean, but remains secure; the text is clean. Free of any creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tighly bound, showing some shelving wear and cosmetic imperfections - and of course the former owner's contributions. The DJ shows heavy wear to the extremities with long tears and considerable loss to chips and tears; unclipped; mylar-protected. Serviceable in the mylar protector, but no longer attractive. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 4to. (11.25 x 8.8 x 0.65 inches). 100 pages + fold-out map at the rear free endpaper. Bibliography. 265 duotone photographic illustrations. Language: English. Weight: 25.6 ounces. Black boards with white titles at the front panel and backstrip. First Edition (1961), unstated. Hardback with DJ. Prepared to accompany the exhibition of the same name, this was the first general survey, since 1900, of this art. Illustrated profusely with black & white photographs of some of the 265 objects in the exhibition. The Papuan Gulf area is the home of numerous tribes whose creative genius has made this one of the most fertile art-producing areas of New Guinea.
