About This Item

New York: Scribner's Sons, 1914. First edition. Preface by the author which opens with a plea "for the restoration to the greatest mountain in North America of its immemorial native name" - which was finally achieved nationwide in 2015 when the name was changed from Mt. McKinley to Denali. Stuck, who organized the expedition, was accompanied by Walter Harper, an Alaska Native Koyukon mountain climber, guide, and former student, as well as Harry Karstens and Robert Tatum. Harper was the first member of the group to officially reach the summit. 8vo gilt-stamped, light blue cloth boards with illustration of mountain climber scaling a snow-covered peak stamped in white and gray on front. Illustrated with 34 photographic plates and with folding map "Showing Route of the Stuck-Karstens Expedition" at rear (approximately 10.25 x 14"). Minor rubbing to spine ends and board corners, subtle discoloration along bottom rear board, otherwise quite bright and fine.
