This is the dramatic World War II story of the American mission to shoot Japan's greatest admiral out of the sky as his plane flew over the South Pacific. ADM Yamamoto had masterminded the Pearl Harbor attack and was known to be flying to a Japanese base on Bougainville. P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft took off on a long range mission and on April 18, 1943 Yamamoto's plane was shot down. The controversy that followed was over which pilot is credited with the kill.
