Rough cut pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, creased corners and foxing. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Minor rubbing to tips of lightly darkened spine; yellowing to page edges; light foxing to endpapers, scattered foxing in text; some tissue guards creased; else a VG clean, tight and unworn copy, no owner names. Laid in is a view of Cakemore from another source, and a printed sheet dated 19 and 21 Dec., 1903, from Buckhingham Palace. The king and queen's private secretaries send thanks for the gift of the book. Illustrated with monochrome plates depicting family members, handwritten letters, and property and land. Folding genealogical pedigrees. In the original publishers' cornflower blue cloth with gilt armourial centrepiece. Cloth slightly rubbed at spine-tips and corners with foxing throughout. With an early twentieth century pictorial bookplate of Herbert S. Squance. Overall, a tight, square copy free of inscriptions or annotations. All plates and family pedigrees present. A generously illustrated and fastidious study of the history of the Northern branch of the Attwood Family by prolific Sunderland antiquary John Robinson.
