Lugduni (Lyon): Laurentii Arnaud, Petri Borde, Joannis, & Petri Arnaud, 1677. Original. Hardcover. VG, clean and tight pages. A line of old handwriting (fountain pen?) at top of title page. Front board beginning to detach at bottom. Small, white ex-lib. numbers on lower spine. General scuffing to covers and wear to edges/corners. Ex libris Rev. Joannis Shanahan (most likely Bishop John Shanahan of the Harrisburg, PA Catholic Diocese, 1899-1916). Worm holes on spine and bottom corners (near gutter) of ffep and title page, with single holes at same location through to page 13. Some age toning on text columns of pages. Foxing on first few pages and last several pages.. Embossed leather/boards. 5 highly-raised bands on spine with gilt decoration and lettering. Red speckled page edges. (2) + 444 + (116). Title page with red/black lettering and bw illus. Typeset in two columns. Text in Latin. Barbosa was a prolific Portuguese writer on canon law. His work included dictionary-type surveys of the legal elements. His works fill at least 30 volumes. They show intimate acquaintance with authors, sources, and controversial questions.
