Leipzig: Arkstee und Merkus, 1748.. A copper engraved view on laid paper, uncoloured, from Volume 3 of Schwabe's Allgemeine Historie der Reisen (1747 - 1774). Image size is 28cm x 19cm. Text in German. Verso blank. At upper left: "No. 23." At bottom: "F. de Bakker fecit, 1748". Original folds, clean, very good condition. This view, likely by Bellin, first appeared in Prevost's Histoire Generale des Voyages. A coastal view of two forts, one is St. George's Castle (Elmina Castle, Castelo da Mina), Ghana, Africa. Based on earlier work by Jean Barbot and Olfert Dapper.
