About This Item

Ure Smith Pty. Ltd, Sydney, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Various. introduction by editor. The text is illustrated with numerous black and white reproductions of various artists works with the occasional colour plate, and a small black-and-white photograph or black-and-white illustration of each artist represented. Illustrated boards, with a dull green background and small white illustrations to the boards and white titles to the backstrip. " This book contains selections from the work of thirteen artists at present living in Australia. For a quarter of a century I have helped to make Australian artists better known in this country through art books and publications. The Australian public is now familiar with most of the paintings which have been continually published in reproductions during the last 25 years. The value of art publication in Australia is that it makes the artist's work known beyond each State. Even art exhibitions do not penetrate beyond cities, and few exhibitions are sent out of the country. The value of a book is that it can be sent anywhere. Now in this book I am introducing paintings and sculptures by artists, many of whom are not generally known throughout Australia. For the Australian public these artists can be almost looked upon as a new crop." -- from the introduction Page 7. The artists represented William Dobell, Russell Drysdale, Frank Medworth, Daphne Mayo, Donald Friend, Joshua Smith, Adrian Feint, Douglas Annand, Eric Wilson, Elaine Haxton and Peter Purves Smith. Rubbing to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and bumping and rubbing to the book corners. The book panels have become slightly scuffed and stained. Light foxing and very light browning to the text block edges. Faint browning to the endpapers. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. IV, 112 pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
