About This Item

Undated, probably 1877. 6 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Lord Napier of Magdala (1810-90) served in campaigns in India and distinguished himself at the siege of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. After the Abyssinian Expedition of 1868, Napier of Magdala became commander in chief in India. “... it was a defeat by two troops of Dragoons of a force of three or four thousand armed insurgents with leaders such a Feroze Shah ... who cut their way through Lord Clyde’s troops.”
