LOOSE_LEAF. N.P., 1939. Autograph letter signed by Booth Tarkington to one of the Silberman brothers, noted art dealers in New York City with whom Tarkington enjoyed a long relationship. The letter dates from 1939, the same year that Tarkington published Some Old Portraits, his book on 17th century artwork. A humourous letter discussing artistic and personal matters. "Tomorrow I am sending you the 1525 French Menaud d'Aure for cradling... I suppose she ought to begin like any other lady with something wrong, by being x-rayed. After that, Dr. Elkan can decide whether this new discovery that everbody's taking (sulphonilamid) would do her any good, or if there ought to be an operation... she came from Mr. Voss who has lately been nervously upset by Betty's thoroughness in checking up on the 19th and 18th Century portraits I'm using in the forthcoming book... I'd prefer to embitter him with the discovery that this pic. is really an overpainted Giambellino..." An excellent example, well preserved, with some creases. With a two paged typed transcript of the letter. Please contact us with additional pictures or information. . Fine. 1939.
