Cover has beautifully detailed coat of arms for Baron Von Munchausen with tooling and git. Gilt page edges on three sides, still shiny and bright. Spine has been rebound at some earlier date, Prior to 1970 when the book as acquired by this estate. Bottom edges of covers shows some wear. Pages are clean and bright. Illustrations are crisp and not bleeding to other pages. Beautiful marbled endpapers. First edition edition of the illustrations by Dore and the new translation by Theophile Gautier fils. 158 drawings engraved on wood after Gustave Dore, including a frontispiece, 1 vignette on the title, 31 full-page plates and 125 vignettes in the text. Preface by Theophile Gautier. Replaced spine is gilt and has four ribs Nicely don. Charming illustration of Gustave Dore, full of verve and wit. Carteret (The bibliophile's treasure). Tight binding.
