About This Item
New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1935 Dark olive cloth with paper pastedown title and spine label. Deckled edges. First published by Methuen, London, 1934. Scarce first U.S.edition. Note preceding Contents page states: "The essays of which this book is composed are reprinted, often with slight alterations, from the 'Illustrated London News,' by kind permission of the proprietors of that paper." Thirty six essays. Light-to-moderate rubbing to cover extremeties, with most wear to lower spine tips. Minute chips to edge of pastedown label on cover. Spine label moderately scraped at letter "S" in "Denials" and with tiny chips to edges. Slight indentation shows along vertical center of spine (center of text block binding). Both inside front cover and front endpaper have 3/4 darkened rectangular shape from something previously laid-in. Otherwise clean, tight, and unworn.
