About This Item
Chicago: David C. Cook Publishing Company, 1899. Hardcover. 8vo. Half lavender cloth with gilt lettering and glazed marbled paper over boards. 96pp. Illustrations, decorations. Very good. Ownership signature on front flyleaf. Tight, clean, attractive first edition, printed in this religious publisher's usual two-column format. Although 1897 and 1899 both appear on the copyright statement, we have yet to unearth any copy dated only 1897; it would appear that this 1899 edition is indeed the first edition despite the odd dating. Cook specialized in a variety of religious books "of interest to all lovers of good and wholesome literature, whether young or old." Wright published an eclectic variety of titles ("A Modern Prodigal" and "Secrets of the Convent and Confessional" two among them) in the late 19th century.
