The majority of stories and fairy tales in this book were by women writers of the time and also the illustrations mainly selected from women illustrators. Very sad and racist poems like "Black & White" by Dorothy Dickinson or Sambo the Golliwog by Beryl Faulkner are included as well as a multitude of wonderful short stories by today lesser known women authors of teh early 20th century.
