Carl Jackson, The Pennsylvania State University - " Dear Mr. Jackson, I wanted to draw your attention to the unique communications experiment in bringing the Apollo 11 live telecasts to Anchorage. This will be the first direct intercontinental link to Alaska, using two communications satellites in a complex distribution chain for the tests." He goes on to talk about the experiment "heralding a new era for Alaska" and how it will in particular to bring audio-visual techniques to Alaskan schools, libraries, hospitals, universities, and community centers. He finishes by by asking Jackson for future help in bringing new techniques or applications "to help accelerate this era". Mike Gravel was the colorful Democratic Senator from Alaska 1969-81. The items are presented in a double-sided glazed frame, with the signed items on one side, the ephemera on the other. The Vincent photograph is a deckle-edged publicity shot (200 × 148 mm, SP422); the signed Cochran item (93 × 128 mm) is matted with a printed portrait (147 mm in diameter). The ephemera comprise two colour photocopies: the front cover of the souvenir programme for their English tour, and a ticket stub to one of the concerts. External dimensions 590 × 243 mm; all items are in excellent condition. The programme was produced for the English tour of the two American rock and roll stars. 'Larry Parnes set up a tour, mostly two houses a night, from January 24 to April 16, 1960, a combination of complete weeks in the big cities and one-night stands elsewhere. Norwalk, Ct: The Easton Press, 1967. Reprint . Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. pp: 138. Bound in full grey leather covered boards elaborately decorated with the letter 'H' stamped in gilt designed by Peter Winfield Johnson. The book includes raised bands to the spine, gilt edges, frontispiece, and satin endpapers. The illustrations by Legrand were originally in the 1939 Limited Editions Club publication. The text of this edition is also from the 1939 publication which was derived from the Second Quarto of 1604 and the First Folio edition of 1623. It contains the old style spelling and punctuation of the earlier printings. The size of the text block is almost exactly the same as that of the First Folio. The paper was made at the Glatfelter Paper Mill in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. Laid in is a four-page booklet on the historical context of this publication.
