[Richmond, VA]: For the Author, [1997]. 8vo. viii, 150, a-l, 151-310 pp. Including photo plates, illustrations, double-page map. Blue cloth, gilt lettering, w/ d.j. (very slight closed tear at head of spine), still F/NF copy, inscribed by author to Norm Moore, from the library of Norm Moore. First edition, inscribed, No. 20 of 750 copies printed. The Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency was created in the 1890’s by William Gibboney Baldwin as the Virginia & West Virginia Railroad Detectives, later changed to Iron & Coal Police of West Virginia, and in 1910 finally changed to Baldwin-Felts Detectives when Thomas Lee Felts became partner. This book is a history of the Agency who figured significantly in the 1906 Brownsville Raid, the 1912 Hillsville tragedy, the 1913 Colorado Coal Strike, and the 1920 Matewan massacre, along with the Hatfield & McCoys feud, and chasing down moonshiners.
