Original tan cloth stamped in blind, a good copy,lightly foxed and rubbed with a small chip missing at top of spine. First edition. "This is a fascinating and entertaining account of the organization of New York banks and the duties of the various officers. There's also a vivid description of the clearing-house system. Anecdotal conversations abound and the illustrations are very revealing. The history of the great panic of 1857 is portrayed. The author was a well-known merchant of New York City - Larned, The Literature of American History, 2856. Hamilton, Early American Book Illustrators, 830a. A valuable book, being probably ther best over-all description of bank operation at the middle of the century. The author was long a recognized authority on American bank administration-- Larson 1736..
