Soft cover. Very Good. Signed by Author(s). Two items of Barnaby Conrad interest. 1) art postcard with an original hand-sketched and signed illustration by Barnaby Conrad. The original illustration (a portrait which appears to be of Carlos Arruza) is on the backside of the postcard. The front side features a printed illustration by Barnaby showing a matador and bull inside an arena. Below the sketch is inscribed: Para / Tony ''Er Canoso'' / con un abrago de / Barnabi ''Er Carvo''. [Inscribed to Anthony "Tony" Brand, a Hispanist and former assistant editor of the American Review of Bullfighting.] 2) [book] Carlos Arruza. Author is Lyn Sherwood. Hooper Publishing for Clarin, Phoenix, Arizona. 1966. Soft cover. Light wear to wraps; some soiling to bottom edge of rear cover. Pen markings on a couple pages. pp. x, 19, [50]. 9 x 6 inches. Inscribed to Barnaby Conrad by the president of the publishing house on the half-title page. Barnaby had been a student of Arruza's and also co-authored Arruza's autobiography. Foreword by Constantine Hassalevris. 19-page essay by Lyn Sherwood, photographer and publisher of the bullfighting periodical, The Clarin, who met and worked with Arruza in 1964. This is followed by 49 pages of photographs of Arruza, many in action. Carlos Arruza (1920-1966) was born in Mexico to Spanish parents and was one of the world's most prominent bullfighters of the 1940s. Barnaby Conrad studied under him in Spain. Barnaby Conrad (1922-2013) was an American artist, author, nightclub proprietor, bullfighter and boxer. His charcoal portraits of Truman Capote and James Michener hang in the National Portrait Gallery.
