Full-color frontis. illustration by Kathleen Hale. Fore-edge untrimmed, top edge gilt. Bound in full blue cloth with gilt illustration on front cover, gilt lettering on spine. With a clear, removable archival protector. Edition limited to 1,000 signed and numbered copies, of which is No. 300. A handsome, fresh copy with a trifle suggestion of spine fading. This is the first edition of Waugh's final work of fiction, which was initially published in the Sunday Telegraph and Esquire Magazine. In the prefatory letter, Waugh provides antecedents to the story's characters. Page 8, item 35 in "Evelyn Waugh A Checklist of Primary and Secondary Material" by Davis, et al.
