About This Item
Hamish Hamilton Ltd, London, 1989. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Photographic / Illustrations. Translator's note, list of illustrations, foreword by author, two appendices, notes and index. Between pages 178 and 179 there are 16 pages of black-and-white photography and illustrations. Maroon coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Charles Baudelaire (1821-67) was a scandal ridden 19th century French poet; and, since his death his life has been one of myth, anecdote and scandal, albeit some of it based on truth. The author has drawn on over 100 years of research and scholarship to give the fullest, and most accurate, biography available for this man. This book is an ex-library copy, and, has the faults of same  signs of removal of stickers to the front paste-down, removal of the free front end page, library stamp to the lower edge of the title page and library sticker to the lower edge of the verso of that page. Softening and rubbing of the backstrip edges with cocking of the spine. Tape residue can be seen to the end pages. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. First English Translation. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [11], XII - XIV, [2], 430, [4] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic / Illustrations. Quantity Available: 1.
