Michael Joseph, 1975. 1st UK Edition. Hardcover. NF/VG+. 1st UK Edition. 12.5 x 20.3 cm blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, 229 [3]pp with original unclipped jacket priced at £3.00 net. Laid in is a photograph of the author. A near fine book with just a hint of pushing to the spine tips. The dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown), has a 1.5 cm closed tear on the fore edge of the upper panel, some fading to the author's name on the spine and a little rubbing to the spine tips, edges and corners. All in all a very nice 1st UK Edition of this love story set in Harlem in the early 1970s about a man falsely accused of rape and filmed under the same name in 2018. Synopsis
If Beale Street Could Talk, James Baldwin's fifth novel is a love story set in Harlem in the early 70's. Young Tish and Fonny, who are in love and expecting a child. They plan on marrying until Fonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. Their tragic love story paints a bleak picture of racism and injustice. It is the only Baldwin novel narrated by a woman.
