First Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. xii, 112; map endpapers, frontispiece, 20 plates, coloured folding panorama at rear of book, 2 sketch maps (1 full-page), bibliography, index; blue-green cloth, gilt decoration on cover, lettered in gilt on spine, dustjacket with minor marks, otherwise a very good copy. An account of the experiences and feelings of Captain Owen Stanley, and his officers, including the junior surgeon Thomas Huxley and Rattlesnake's guest artist Oswald Brierly, during the Rattlesnake's survey cruise off the coasts of Australia and New Guinea and among the islands of Torres Strait between 1846 and 1850.
