Nedlands, Western Australia: University of Western Australia Press, 2000. Beige cloth-covered boards with brown titling to spine. 11 1/2" x 8 1/2". Spine is slightly shaken; minute rubbing to spine ends and corners. Very clean, tight copy; probably unread. Light brown dust-jacket with black titling; illustrated with architectural drawings to both front and back. Slight rubbing to top edge of dust-jacket; spine is slightly sunned, and there are a few small marks and indents to lower spine (dust-jacket). Faint traces of pencil to upper right corner of front endpaper. 406 pages in all, including introduction, notes, chronology, bibliography, and index. "BETWEEN DEVOTION AND DESIGN pays tribute to the life and work of John Cyril Hawes, whose remarkable architectural works can be seen around the globe, from the sedate south of England, to the hurricane-torn Caribbean, to the dry rugged Mid-West of Western Australia. Hawes trained as both an architect and a priest, and it was the union of these two vocations that influenced his work. Sensitive to the elements of the environment and the different cultures he worked within, he developed an idiosyncratic and imaginative style. [...] Extensively illustrated with reproductions of Hawes' designs, buildings, paintings and sketches, Between Devotion and Design will inspire general readers, architects and scholars alike." (From front flap.). First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
