Collection of poems by the celebrated African author. "Most of the poems were first published in Nigeria...and were written over a period of four years during the civil war and its immediate aftermath. The first collection contained twenty-three poems; a second revised edition, containing thirty poems grouped under a series of headings, was published a year later by Heinemann Educational Books in london under the same title and won the newly established Commonwealth Poetry Prize" (Innes, Catherine Lynette. Chinua Achebe. p.134). This edition considerably expanded from the First, published in 1971 by Nwankwo-Ifejika & Co.
