London: Robert Barker, 1609. 4to (8.5 x 6.25 in). A complete Geneva Bible with the full set of Geneva illustrations and maps. This copy contains the misprint in John 6:67 that reads "Judas" instead of "Jesus". This Bible has been nicely rebound with the Book of Common Prayer and Psalter.

Description

The Book of Common Prayer begins with final leaf of the Calendar. Composite genera title page (1609) with woodcut border comprising twenty-four small compartments showing the tents of the twelve tribes as well as the figures of the twelve apostles. Title is enclosed within a heart-shaped frame. Text in two column Roman font with the full set of Geneva illustrations and maps. Title to the Second Part (n.d.) with decorated head- and tailpiece. Apocrypha included as issued. Similar New Testament title page (1609) with woodcut border. Concludes with the Two Tables and dated colophon (1609). Bound with The Booke of Psalms with printed title page (1608). Woodcut first chapter initials and decorated head- and tailpieces.

Binding

Rebound in modern paneled calf with corner fleurons. Spine with five raised blind-lined bands and the words "Breeches Bibles" and "1609" lettered in gilt. Plain endpapers.

Condition

First two leaves of Book of Common Prayer frayed to edges and remargined; first ten ff. lightly stained; Bible text with occasional staining, mostly to margins; thumbsoiling to edges; A4, P8, Qq3 short closed tear into text without loss; Q6 (I Kings 12) lower corner loss with letters to twelve lines of outer column; &2 pen scribbles to lower corner recto; Ccc4 remargined; The Booke of Psalms with final signature frayed; final leaf repaired with 50% loss; Boards lightly rubbed, bands scuffed, slightly splayed.
