About This Item
Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1947. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Not signed, but Larry McMurtry's copy, with his bookplate on the front pastedown, a notable association since McMurtry is Mr. Literary Texas. From the American Folkways Series. A very good book with some fading to edges of boards and wear to lower edges, and a two-inch split to the pastedown endpaper low along the hinge (visible in photo 2), but no split board. The jacket is only good because of a chip to upper inner corner of the front panel. Still, a cool book: cows trailing down a grade on the cover. Curiously the whole back panel of the jacket is devoted to another book in the series, Southern California Country. Please inquire for photos.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
