These popular works were written by William Earl Johns (1893-1968), who was himself a pilot in the First World War. The first three volumes are published by Hodder and Stoughton; Biggles at the World"s End is published by Brockhampton Press. All volumes are illustrated by Leslie Stead, who worked on many of the books in the Biggles series. This set comprises: Biggles in the Orient (1948; first edition, second impression) Biggles Takes a Holiday (1950; first edition, second impression) Another Job for Biggles (1951; first edition, first impression) Biggles at World"s End (1959; first edition, first impression)Two pages to the rear of Biggles at World"s End, listing the books in the series. All in the publisher's original cloth bindings; three with their original unclipped dust wrappers. Externally, cloth is generally bright and smart. Slightly faded to the spine and extremities of 'Biggles Takes a Holiday'. Faint marks to the tail of the boards to 'Biggles at World's End'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean to all volumes except for 'Biggles Takes a Holiday' which is spotted to the first and last couple of pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Dust wrappers remain bright but are chipped to the extremities, particularly to the head and tail of the spine and to the folds of the flyleaves. Amateur tape repairs to 'Another Job for Biggles'. Very Good
