Sm. 8vo., embossed dark-brown cloth. First Edition, binding A. [BAL 13068]. Signed by American lawyer Tappan Wentworth on the front endpaper. Wentworth was admitted to the bar in 1826 and practiced in Great Halls, New Hampshire. He later moved to Lowell where we was a member of the town council and served as a Whig and Republican in the state Legislature. He was elected to Congress as a Whig and served from March 4, 1853 to March 3, 1855. The whole family is notable in New England politics. A Merle Johnson highspot of American Literature. Very Good (head of spine lightly chipped). A nice copy. $375.00.
