About This Item
(George: the author, 2007) 9740620383622. 210 x 147 mm; pictorial wrappers; pp. 234. Upper cover very slightly rubbed. Near fine condition. "This is a South African story, set in the early twentieth century in the Eastern Cape's rural Transkei, in the land of the amaXhosa. It is a story of young people from diverse cultures forming friendships and growing up together into adulthood. Woven into the tale is the way of life of the amaXhosa, with their centuries-old tribal culture and customs. The events in the country at the time shape the lives of the characters. Despite their backgrounds, human weaknesses and frailties, the characters are drawn together by the strong and binding cord of their common humanity." The title page dedication reads: "In memory of my parents. And for the great-hearted people of Xhosaland's Transkei, where I spent many happy childhood years." .
