Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1887. RARE and outstanding example of West Coast American Arts & Crafts bookbinding by Clara Rice ( her initials bottom of front cover). Bound in full crushed green morocco, five raised bands, gilt lettering spine and front cover, front cover image of two trees with initials CR bottom of left tree, moire silk end papers, top edge gilt. Period bookplate of Charles Ernest Green front pastedown. Gift inscription pasted on card stock front flyleaf reads: " Christmas Greetings to C.E.G. This binding is by Clara Rice and is a fine sample of her work. The book has been on exhibition at the Arts & Crafts Guild. R.J.D.". No Date to inscription, circa 1903. The San Francisco Call newspaper shows an article dated Dec. 12. 1903 tha is titled "Guild of Arts & Crafts opens Unique exhibition" and further states "Miss Clara Rice, Secretary. Her mosaic leather work in book-binding is much admired". And the Bulletin of the Dept. of Labor, Vol. 9, issues 54-56, shows " Guild of Arts & Crafts of California, Miss Clara Rice, Secretary, 639 Kearney St., San Francisco". Very Good, front cover and spine uniformly lighter than rear cover, top corner front cover small bump. Originally started in 1894, the first run of the Guild of Arts & Crafts in San Francisco lasted until some time in 1897. Douglas van Denburgh launched the second Guild of Arts & Crafts in San Francisco in 1903, and that group lasted at least through 1910. And the poet Edward Rowland Sill was principal of Oakland High School, California and professor of English literature at the University of California during the period 1874 - 1882. He died at the age of 46 in 1887, a minor American poet of high quality who but for his early death may have gained a higher place. A uniquely San Francisco book from the height of the Arts & Crafts movement in California and in America.. Later Printing. Morocco. Very Good/No Jacket, As Issued. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

New York: Ecco Press, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/very good. Octavo, 42pp. A very good copy, crisp and clean, with the spinea tinge cocked and the very top edges gently sun-faded. In a very good dust jacket with a couple short closed tears, and some droplet stains to the rear panel. This copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gluck on the leaf opposite the half-title to fellow author and literary critic David Madden: "For David, with warm wishes. Louise Gluck." Madden's ownership signature appears on the front free endpaper, as does the previous owner, fellow North Carolina poet and author [Katherine] "Bonnie" Soniat. Gluck's second book is scarce in the first printing, especially signed, and particularly in the time since Gluck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020.

Printed for G. Walker, J. Akerman, E. Edwards; Thomas Tegg....... London. 1822. THREE VOLUMES. 8vo. (9.3 x 6 inches). Tall, wide margined copy with the pages untrimmed. Half titles present in all three volumes. Two leaves duplicated and incorrectly inserted into the end of volume two, namely 2 pages from the index which appears in volume 3 have been bound in in error, one where page 513/4 should be (easy to see how, both leaves share the signature Ll), the other at the end of the text where a blank should be, and the two leaves of Appendix are bound in the wrong order but complete. A neat previous owner name to the top of the title page in volume 3. Some foxing and offsetting of the text block to a few leaves in each volume, particularly the first pages of volume one, but overall a very good set. Finely bound in recent full antique speckled brown calf. Spines with five raised bands, the compartments decorated and ruled in blind. Red and green labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Cleveland, 1966. Faint toning. 11 x 8.5 inches. Title leaf of translucent paper with an original drawing by levy. Mimeographed. 12 pages, on rectos only. Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
