About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1916. This popular tale by Kate Douglas Wiggin was part of a 682d thousand printing and comes with the rare original dust jacket. The book is in Very Good + condition. The handsome illustrated covers are bound in green cloth, with line drawing, designs, and lettering in black. (Click on photo.) The covers are clean, having been protected for 90 years by the dust jacket. The binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean and bright, with a frontis illustration and numerous other illustrations throughout. The original owner's signature is on the front endpaper and on the front dust jacket flap. The endpapers show some toning caused by acidity in the dust jacket flaps. The unclipped dust jacket was printed on a highly acidic paper and thus shows browning and fragility. There are some some missing pieces in the spine area, as well as chipping on the top front panel, plus several tears. The dust jacket has some tape repairs on the reverse. I have placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. The book measures 5 9/16 by 7 7/8 inches and includes 69 pages, plus a page of ads with other Wiggin titles.. Hard Cover. Very Good +/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
