Type: Hardback Classic Plays by Aristophanes, 450-385 B.C.(approx) in a handsome Heritage Press Edition in NEAR FINE Condition with a Good Slipcase. A turn-around book, an upside-down book, technically a dos-a-dos book. The Frogs: Translated from the Greek by William James Hickie with Introduction by Gilbert Seldes. Wood Engravings by John Austen. The Birds: Introduction by Dudley Fitts and Illustrations by Marian Parry in text and on each page in margins and dancing throughour text. This edition is a turn-around book, an upside-down book, technically a dos-a-dos book. Black linen half-cloth backstrap, gilt titled and decorated; at the top of each side of the cloth on front are gilt identification-drawings and the name of the play-The Birds on one side, The Frogs on the other. The grey-paper-over-boards are gay with decorated stripes -red and yellow for The Birds and blue and yellow for The Frogs-drawn by Marian Perry. There is a separator of the same design and color in the book to separate the plays. Former owner bookplate on The Birds side, on endpaper, otherwise in FINE Condition. Very clean and unmarked, no wear to extremities, tight and solid, square with sharp corners. Gray slipcase is scuffed at corners and is soiled. The Heritage Club "Sandglass" laid in. 52/62 pages. 11.25 x 8 inches. The Heritage Club, New York, 1959.
