About This Item

Boston, Noyes, Holmes and Company, 1870, . . original pictorial gilt cloth, faded, re-backed with most of original spine, corner and edge-wear, top edge gilted, good sound copy. . 8vo; vii, 591 pp, 8 color lithographic plates, each illustrating several species, engraved illustrations in text. . Wood p 550, Zimmer p 544. The original edition of 1867, entitled "Ornithology and Oology of New England" did not have the colored plates of birds, which seem to be after Audubon, nor did it have the expanded appendix which includes new species. There were many later editions under the title, "Our Northern and Eastern Birds", which had only minor revisions. A picture of this book is available on request by email.
