Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. Biggers loosely based Chan on Hawaiian detective Chang Apana. The benevolent and heroic Chan was conceived as an alternative to Yellow Peril stereotypes and villains like Fu Manchu.
Synopsis
This book is a murder mystery set in Honolulu. Shelah Fane, the Hollywood star, has come to Hawaii to finish the filming of her latest movie. When she is stabbed to death in her beach house, Charlie Chan is called in to investigate. His movie-struck children are thrilled. Other characters include Shelah's wealthy suitor, her young protegee, a Hollywood fortune-teller, a young man from the Tourist Bureau, a beachcomber and an assortment of actors.
