About This Item
New York: Pickslay & Co., 1900. Pamphlet. Fine. A marketing 'story' describing the Black Opal gem - its origins, cutting, mining, marketing and a poem, with beautiful color illustrations tipped in of extraordinary opal colors and shapes. Unusual, and not recorded on Trove.
Pickslay & Co. was a jeweler based on Fifth Avenue of New York City. Charles Pickslay was born in England and moved to work with Theodore B. Starr, a company of silversmiths, where he got his start. Pickslay & Co. is described as 'an important but overlooked early 20th-century New York jeweler' by starcojewelers.com. Charles Pickslay is listed in Brooklyn City directories and U. S. Federal Census as a jeweler from 1870 to 1900. His obituary asks papers in Sheffield, England to copy the obituary.
6 1/4 x 3 3/8", 16pp, card covers, stapled and tied spine. Blue title and logo decoration on front, 2 color illustrations tipped in.
