Great Northern Railway, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Slipcase. Illustrator: Winold Reiss. Foreword, Out of the North by Frank B. Lindeman, biographies on the artist and the author and index. Bright yellow coloured end pages. The text is illustrated with 49 coloured portraits of Blackfeet Native People by Winold Reiss. Red coloured boards with blue coloured titles to the top and bottom edges of the front panel. Illustrated dustwrapper, being a blue and white design with red coloured titles to the top edge of the front panel  please see photograph. Slipcase has the same design as for the dustwrapper  with blue and white coloured design and red coloured titles to the front edge. Also included is a "envelope" to tuck the book into, and then place the book and envelope into the slipcase. A tribute to the Blackfeet Native Americans, which recounts their history through the period when they were forced to become farmers after the near extinction of the buffalo and beaver upon which they lived. The book was commissioned by Great Northern Railway to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Glacier National Park  land was bought from the Blackfeet Nation in the 1880s by the government. The Book:  minor rubbing of the book corners and backstrip corners. Age toning and the very occasional spot to the textblock edges, and, very minor age toning of the pages. The Dustwrapper:  rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels and there is signing and darkening of the panels and backstrip with light browning noticeable to the verso. The Slipcase:  the envelope part of the slipcase has a few nicks and rubs where it has come in contact with the outside world; sunning to both edges and to the panel. The slipcase itself has chipping of all four "backstrip" edges with rubbing of the panels and edges. Sunning to the top edge and a few stains to the rear panel  which incidentally has a gift "postcard" embossed. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. [8], 9 - 65, [5] pages,.
