About This Item

Golden Cockerel Press, 1937. Pp. 160+[2](colophon, verso blank). Tall 4to. Original blue and beige cloth boards. Gilt lettering on the spine. Edges are uncut and lightly soiled. Mould-made paper. Some foxing to the edges and to the extremities of the volume. Bookplates of previous owners on the front end papers. Light pencil markings on the end papers. Illustrations include six crisp wood-engravings. Also included are facsimiles of Bligh's personal map and pages from his log. This is copy 253 of 350. A beautifully preserved edition. The Golden Cockerel was a private printing press that created high quality reproductions of classic works. Their books were so masterfully contrived that they have become collector's items themselves. The Golden Cockerel were particularly known for details such as handmade paper and their fine illustrations, particularly for their clean, crisp woodcuts. The six engravings in this volume were the work of the artist Peter Barker-Mill and they provide a fine ornamentation to this sequel to the Log of the Bounty.

As an interesting note of provenance on this volume, one of the bookplates identifies Andrew David, Lieutenant Commander of the Royal Navy, as a previous owner of this volume. 1937
