[1940 BLITZKRIEG ARTILLERY PLAN Weidinger in German typed manuscript 8 pp original] "Gedanken über Feuerleitung stärkerer Artillerie" ["Thoughts on stronger artillery fire control line"] by the WWII German officer Colonel Wilhelm Weidinger (see Notes). The date "Februar 1940" is written in pencil at the upper right-hand corner of the first page indicating the essay was written about three months before the Nazi Blitzkrieg beginning in May 1940. On page 3, Weidinger writes, "[I]t is safe to assume that the struggle in the West [blitzkrieg invasion of Belgium, etc., opening in May 1940] will not take place as it did in Poland [invasion, September 1939]". In a few places are marginal pencil notes by the officer Walter Limberger (see Notes) Weidinger presumably gave his essay to when the met when both working at Wa Pruf 8, a WWII German research and development center for weapons and operations (see Notes)…the essay concerns organization of artillery fire to maximum effectiveness and how to achieve this quickly and efficiently in a battlefield of rapid and fluid operations, namely Blitzkrieg (lighting war), by identifying coordinates for concentrating fire of multiple artillery pieces using maps and optical equipment and communicating these to the artillery units and their officers uniformly, clearly, and simply, the essay is briefly technical in places, presumed to be unique, one-of-a-kind surviving copy seemingly given to Lt.
