Born in Chesterfield,on 30 October,1941,Bob Wilson had early football success playing in goal for England schoolboys.After qualifying as a physical education teacher at Loughborough College,he signed for Arsenal in 1962.He made more than three hundred first-team appearances, helping the Gunners win the European Fairs Cup in 1970 and,one year later,the coveted League Championship and FA Cup double.He also became the first English-born player to be capped by Scotland,the country of his parents' birth. In 1974 Bob Wilson embarked on a career in television for the BBC.The presenter of 'Football Focus' for twenty years,he also presented 'Grandstand','Match of the Day',and major World Cup tournaments.He joined ITV Sport in 1994 as their main football presenter.The first specialist goal-keeping coach in Britain,he has coached the keepers of Arsenal,QPR,and other top clubs.In 1989 and 2000 he was awarded honorary degrees by Loughborough University and the University of Derby respectively.Married to Megs in 1964,they had three children, John,Anna and Robert.After Anna's death in December 1998,he and his wife created the Willow Foundation in memory of their daughter who died of a rare form of cancer.The charity provides special days for seriously ill young adults between the ages of sixteen and forty.
