New York, New York, U.S.A.: Dutton/Penguin Group, 1990. BZ3 - A hard cover first edition withdrawn ex-library book in good+ to very good- condition with a dust jacket in very good+ condition. Stated first printing with a sequence of numbers with the "1" present and with no additional printings indicated. A tight, clean, sound copy in cobalt blue paper covered boards quarter bound in white cloth with gold lettering and a graphic on the spine with minor overall shelf wear with some light fading of the paper along the top board edges plus there is tape staining on the outside surfaces of the front and back boards from where the dust jacket endflaps were taped to the boards plus there are the usual library stamps, labels, and pocket on the top and bottom outside paper edges, the front free endpaper, the title page, and the copyright page. The dust jacket shows only very, very minor overall shelf wear plus it is still in the original library mylar sleeve. A collection of short stores set America but written from the vantage point of someone not born in the country. By the author of "Abeng," "No Telephone to Heaven," and "Claiming an Identity They Taught Me to Despise." 155p.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Very Good. 5.75"x8.75". Ex-Library.

Synopsis

Michelle Cliff was born in Jamaica and is the author of three acclaimed novels: Abeng , its sequel, No Telephone to Heaven , and Free Enterprise (Plume). She has also written a collection of short stories, Bodies of Water (Plume), and two poetry collections, The Land of Look Behind and Claiming an Identity They Tought Me to Despise . She is Allan K. Smith Professor of English Language and Literature at Trinity College in Connecticut and divides her time between Hartford, Connecticut, and Santa Cruz, California.
