A first edition of Bruce and William Catton's work of American history in a deluxe Franklin Library issuance. In this work the authors tell of events from Christopher Columbus's time through the early part of the 19th century. With a special introductory note by the authors and illustrations by Dennis Lyall. Also with a number of attractive maps. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Doubleday & Company trade edition. One of an unspecified limited number in the series. --- Bound in full brown bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Brown silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- An about-Fine copy: bright, newish and probably unread.
