About This Item

Boosey & Hawkes, 2007. Paperback (No Dust Wrapper.). Very Good. Leans slightly.. Paperback. Physically 9½” x 6¾” (0.6 kg); 243pp; Index; Bibliography; First in this edition. Illustrated with B&W photographs. From the introduction: “The invitation to delve into the history of Boosey & Hawkes as a publishing company was irresistible: from Bartók to Britten, Copland to Kodály, Shostakovich and Strauss to Stravinsky, who of any importance had not come under its imprint? Today B&H has contracts with Adams, Birtwistle, Górecki, Lindberg, MacMillan and Reich. Then there was the light music: not a day goes by when we are not reminded of the firm’s success m that area by The Archers’ theme tune. In educational music B&H first published Bartók’s Mikrokosmos, Kodaly’s Choral Method and went on with the innovative violin tutors of Sheila Nelson, Christopher Norton’s Microjazz and many other best-sellers. But this is to scratch the surface of nearly eighty years’ worth of activity, and indeed it would take another, much more thorough-going academic study to uncover all the complex workings of this company and its composers.” ISBN: 9780851625140 || The book is on my shelves and will be carefully packed and posted from the pastoral paradise of Peasedown St. John, Bath, by a real bookseller in a real book shop - with my personal guarantee and my beady eye on the Consumer Contracts Regulations. About BookLovers of Bath

BookLovers of Bath is set in the pastoral idyll of Peasedown St. John in Somerset (God's Own Country) in the south west of England. My wife and I owned the village Post Office until the modern world caught up with us in 2014. At that point I converted the premises to a small book shop, Fact or Fable, with a stock of around 4,000 titles in stock. I've been selling books worldwide since 1997 and rather hope to get the hang of it shortly…
