First Edition hardcover book in original unclipped dust jacket. Clean red cloth-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean with clean endpapers - no names, writing or bookplates. Illustrated with black & white drawings. 359 pages. Clean jacket has some small edge chips, mostly at top and bottom spine edges, is not price clipped. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. During the years 1777 to 1783 Boswell contributed seventy papers to The London Magazine under the pseudonum "The Hypochondriack." Written while he was between the ages of 38 and 43, they provided Boswell with an opportunity to comment on life from an immense variety of angles from 'Love' to 'Cookery', and to search into his own experiences, character and background. They reveal much about the character of Boswell and the life and thought of an 18th century gentleman..
