London : Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge A nice copy. Undated but looks 1850 - 1860. In green decorative cloth binding with gilt decoration of a plant on the front board and titles with leaves on the spine. It covers a range of habitats, with each in its own section - having its own title page, and illustrations, including 'the meadow', 'the corn-field', 'the hedge-bank', 'the wood', 'the heath', 'the mountain', 'the bog' and 'the sea-shore'. With numerous black and white full page and text illustrations. The binding is sound but the cloth is splitting at the top of the spine at the front; there is some marking to the back board and rubbing at wear to cloth at the corners. The gilt is clean and bright. The original endpapers are present - but beginning to split at the joints. Contents are very clean.
