About This Item

504 pp. photographically illustrated book showing the structures at every address on both sides of New York City's most famous street from its point of origin to Central Park. Oblong 4to. Very good. Original wrappers preserved in recent linen boards. [439]

A fascinating project intended to provide a photographic atlas of Manhattan's premiere commercial strip. De Leeuw's book offered businesses along the route advertising space to accompany the images of their location. Now it remains a marvelous document of a city in flux during the early days of the 20th century. An overlooked and important photobook. Scarce in the marketplace.
