About This Item

Evanston, IL. Very good. A collection of 16 boudoir cabinet cards by Evanston, IL-based photographer H.S. Farwell, comprised of photos from Yellowstone National Park circa 1880s. Each card is 21 x 16.5 cm, and labeled with a place name at the bottom, with Mr. Farwell's label on the verso. Two of the images have rubbing, and one has a few splotches but most are in remarkably good condition. Locations include the original wooden Golden Gate Bridge with signage (just visible with a loupe: "Walk Your Horses"); two of the Liberty Cap with the original park administration building in the background; and three featuring a dark-figured, mustached man who retired park historian Lee Whittlesey suspects is a young F. Jay Haynes.
