About This Item

London: Duckworth, 1910. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good. 1910 & 1911. First editions, first impression. Hardbacks, bound in the original cloth with gilt titling to spine and upper board. Each 19.5 × 12.5cm, 340pp & 435pp. Two novels from Lady Helen Forbes, nee Craven, the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Craven. The Bounty of the Gods and its sequel, The Polar Star, traces the fortunes of Frazco Ximantes, son of a noble Spanish father and an English mother. He and his brothers are brought up by their Yorkshire squire uncle, but Frazco, torn between various influences, after various emotional entanglements, becomes a great singer and declasse. In the sequel he marries an earl's daughter and their son inherits the Yorkshire estate. Condition: Good copies. The Bounty is in good order with some fading to the spine and boards' edges. The Polar Star has heavier fading and tanning to the spine and some damage to the head of the spine but both books remain in strong readable condition.
