C. Denton, Bradford, 1872. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Size: 16mo <6 3/4". 148 pp. Binding firm. Chips to spine extremities. Foxing and marking front/rear pages, but body of book mostly clean and unfoxed. Covers marked. Corners bumped. Stephen Fawcett (1807-1876) was born at Burley in Wharfedale, son of a small farmer. He moved to Bradford where for thirty years he was in partnership in the wool business. For three years he lived in the western states of the USA where he bought some land; upon his return to Bradford he worked as a woolcomber and later as a small shopkeeper. He was an atheist turned Swedenborgian and his death occurred on the way home from a meeting with other Swedenborgians when he froze to death in a backyard and was found by a neighbour.
