About This Item
China: uncredited, 1945. No Binding. Very Good. Brass Chinese Brothel (Bordello) Token ("Whorehouse Chit"), circa World War II. 1 5/8" diameters, 1/8" thick, 1.1 oz. Average circulated condition or better. See images. Brought back from the World War II Pacific Theater by a U.S. naval officer shortly after hostilities had ceased, this token (chit) is at newest from the early 1940s, probably a decade or more older. Obverse side is rather graphic, reverse bears Chinese Han characters, translation unknown to us. Brothel tokens, historically, have been redeemable for sexual activity at brothels. See images. Apparently quite scarce. SPC1010
